Installation Guide

Everything you need to mount your sign in under an hour.

What's in the box

Your sign, a 1:1 paper installation template, stainless mounting studs (M5 × 20mm), neoprene backing pads, marine silicone sealant sachet, and a step-by-step printed guide. LED orders also include the RGB controller, power cable, and wiring diagram.

Tools You'll Need

Drill with the bit size listed on your template (typically 5mm), masking tape, pencil or scribe, spirit level, damp cloth, and 10 minutes of patience. No special skills required.

Step-by-Step Guide
1
Clean the Surface
Wipe the mounting area with isopropyl alcohol or a damp cloth. Remove any old adhesive, wax, or polish. The surface needs to be dry and grease-free. Allow to fully dry.
2
Position the Template
Hold the paper template against the hull and use masking tape to hold it in place. Use a spirit level to confirm it's horizontal. Step back and check the visual position from a distance before committing.
3
Mark and Drill
Use a pencil or scribe to mark through the template's hole positions. Remove the template. Drill pilot holes at the marked positions — start with a small pilot bit (2mm), then the full-size bit. Go slowly on fibreglass.
4
Apply Sealant
Apply a small bead of the included marine silicone around each hole. This prevents water ingress. Don't use regular household silicone — it isn't UV-stable or saltwater-resistant.
5
Mount the Sign
Place the neoprene backing pads behind the sign (they prevent galvanic corrosion and dampen vibration). Insert the studs through the sign holes, then into the hull holes. Hand-tighten the nuts — firm, not over-torqued.
6
Clean Up
Wipe away any excess silicone immediately with a damp cloth. Allow the sealant to cure for 24 hours before the boat is back in water. Step back and admire it.
LED Wiring (If Applicable)

LED signs include pre-wired stud terminals. Run the included 12V cable (2-core, tinned marine wire) to your boat's 12V supply — typically from a dedicated fuse in your electrical panel. The RGB controller mounts anywhere dry and connects inline. Full wiring diagram is in the box.

The controller supports PWM dimming and full RGB colour selection via the included remote. If you'd prefer to connect to a smart home or NMEA system, the controller also accepts a 0–10V dimming signal.

Can I mount on teak or a wooden surface?
Yes. Use the same process, but drill your pilot holes slightly undersized and use marine-grade wood screws instead of the included studs. Apply teak oil or varnish around the holes before sealing.
My hull is curved — will the sign still mount flat?
For mild curves: the neoprene pads accommodate up to ~5° of curvature per stud. For more pronounced curves, contact us before ordering and we can pre-curve the sign to match your hull profile (included at no charge if measurements are provided).
What if I drill in the wrong place?
Contact us immediately. We carry stud blanks for brass and stainless that can fill small holes. For fibreglass, a marine epoxy filler works well. We can re-supply a new template free of charge.
